Poonch, Jul 10 (KNO): A joint operation by the Indian Army’s Romeo Force and the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) on Thursday successfully dismantled a terrorist hideout in the Khanetar Top area of Poonch district.
Officials informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that, acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the possible presence of a terror consignment, security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the Khanetar Top area.
"The meticulous search operation resulted in the seizure of a significant cache, including two pistols with two magazines and 24 rounds of 9mm cartridges, six hand grenades, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) with an electronic detonation set and a large quantity of additional ammunition and explosives," an official said.
He said the recovered IEDs and an electronic device suggest that terrorists were planning a targeted attack, potentially aimed at disrupting peace in the region.
"The seizure is believed to be part of a broader network of weapons smuggling intended to revive terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir," he said, adding that this operation marks another success in the ongoing efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
On July 6, a similar joint operation in the Marha area near Behram Gala in Poonch led to the recovery of three hand grenades, live ammunition, wire cutters, power cables, a knife, and other incriminating materials from another terrorist hideout—(KNO)
